Guitar Center Flint

For musicians, the name Guitar Center usually conjures up images of a large store which, to me, is the holy grail of music stores. They have tons of gear (literally) and locations all around the US, and now, the option to buy from them online. One thing that sets this site apart from lots of other musical equipment sites is its content. Guitar Center features reviews and interviews in addition to the aforementioned tons of gear. Combine the ease of use of their website with their annual Green Tag sale, and you’ve got a whopper of a website! Of course, they don’t stop there. Their site also features other services, such as their Musician Finder, which helps you do just what it claims – find musicians. They also offer CD duplication, online guitar lessons, and a few other nifty things.

Heaven on Earth? Pretty dang close! You can try out virtually everything you can see. They have amps set up for you to pick up any guitar you want and try it before you buy it. The same goes for drums, acoustics, keyboards, lighting, dj equipment etc. The employees here know what they are talking about and are extremely helpful. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. There really is nothing to complain about this store and overall company! I highly recommend you shop here for all of your music needs!!

Gear Guitar

This article is intended for the guitar player who is just starting out to get a grasp of what to look for to get the proverbial ball rolling. What you are about to discover as a new musician, is that the search for gear will soon become an overwhelming and never ending endeavor for the elusive, "perfect set-up." You are not there yet. This is some basic information to get you off and running.

Guitar:
To get started, you obviously need a guitar. Some basic ideas to think about are do you want an electric, acoustic, or a combo? The benefit of an acoustic is you won't need to purchase an amp to get started practicing. Which ever way you decide to go, do a little research online and compare models and price tags.

Although the research can be done online... DO NOT PURCHASE THE GUITAR ONLINE! This needs to be done in person at a reputable music store with qualified representatives that can help you through the process. You need to see how the instrument feels and look for things like how high the action is. (This is basically how high the strings sit away from the body and neck of the guitar.) The higher the action, the harder you will need to depress the strings to create the notes and chords. Also, you need to make sure the guitar sounds pleasing to your ear as well as make sure it just fit's. Guitars come in all sizes and it is important to find one that you can play comfortably.

Case:
No matter if you decide on an acoustic or an electric, it is very important to invest in a descent case. If you plan on hitting the road or just rehears at home, a case will help minimize all the dings and scratches that come with taking the guitar in and out of your closet or trunk.

The two basic cases are hard shell and soft shell. They are pretty self explanatory, but the hard have a more ridged body and can generally take a higher level of abuse. The advantage to a soft case is portability. These cases usually come with straps or harness type features like a back-pack which make it much easier to move from one place to the next.

Amp:
If you are going to get an electric, or combo guitar, you will need an amp. Amp's range in size from 10 watts, up to "I Think My Ears Are Bleeding!" Prices also range from $60 up to $5,000 sets. In general, a beginner will do just fine with a 15 watt practice amp. For the more experienced players, choices include 100 watt combo amps, half stacks, full stacks, and much, much more. Everything depends on what you want to do with it, what venue you are using it in, and if you are using it live or in a studio setting.

Accessories:
To be honest, there are a TON of guitar accessories on the market today. Right now we will focus on the basics to help you get started. Assuming you have already purchased the guitar, case, and amp if necessary, some of the additional essentials are a neck strap, picks, a tuner, and a cable.

Some additional accessories which make life a little easier are a guitar stand, music stand, and a descent set of head phones to help keep your neighbors from calling the local authorities to crash your 2am practice session.

Fun place to pretend to be a rock star. I'm usually chilling in the acoustic room as friends play Foo Fighter songs and I play tunes from the soundtracks of Super Mario Bros and other video games on as few strings and frets as possible. Dum Dum--Dum Dum--Dum Dum.

Amanda D : New York, NY

I am quite surprised to read the other reviews because my experience was enjoyable...
I have been here before to buy bass picks for my brother, and when I described the kind of ones he needed since he is quite abusive to them, he helped me found good quality picks for a reasonable price. Today was my second visit with my brother and we enjoyed it. One rep named Nick was very nice and answered all my questions abut accessories and different bass brands. He set us up so my brother could play and he did for a long time with no hassle. Actually now that I think about it, no other representative talked to us.

It was a lot of fun trying out all the different guitars, my brother called it the rock n roll dream... I'm not sure about that since there was no scantily clad women but hey he's only 14 lol

I dunno, I've been to plenty of guitar centers in many cities, this was wasn't as bad as I thought it might be.  I only needed bridge pins for a POS fender acoustic I bought on ebay to fingerpick around when I'm not doing homework.

They didn't make me feel bad about only needing a cheap little item, they didn't try to sell me a Fender Strat to go with it.  I was in and out in less than 5 minutes.  Kudos for that.

I used to work in a music store, so I know what a pain waste of time it is to ring up a $5 sale...they were pretty cool.

Guitar Cente

The amount of information you can hold in the palm of your hands these days is amazing. You can access your bank account, Facebook, Twitter, and soon even be able to make credit card payments with the right smartphone. There are apps that tell you the nearest Guitar Center locations. If you're out shopping, in about five seconds you can find out if you'll get a better deal at RadioShack locations. Shoppers have more opportunity to be informed than ever before.

Why not have your GPS lead you to the nearest Guitar Center locations? It's practically like letting R2D2 drive. Technology has gotten so off the hook that Google's driving around the country in robot cars, literally. Imagine asking a Google robot car to take you to any RadioShack locations within five miles. They'll get you there. One just navigated a 5,000 mile trip across the Sierra, all by itself.

Why we don't all have Google robot cars to drive for us, we can use the web as a resource anytime we shop. With a smartphone, seeing if a deal is really a deal is as simple as a quick search. Find out not only if you can get it cheaper, but where you can get it cheaper. Location search is a new feature of the web, so finding Guitar Center locations has never been easier.

Shopping for technology can be confusing, but technology is a resource in itself. It's a good idea to do online research before visiting RadioShack locations so you have a good idea what's out there. You don't want to be buying last year's phone just because you didn't do your homework. Consumer reviews can be a gold mine of information. Companies may talk up their products, but the people that end up buying the stuff are honest when it comes to reviews.

Many search engines will also tell you the most popular item for the category you're looking for. This can keep you from buying a lame duck version that nobody else has. It always help to see what brands of technology are succeeding in the marketplace.

It's the information age where the consumer is king. If you feel overwhelmed, take it in stride, a little bit at a time. Find out what you can about a product, and if you can get a better deal at Guitar Center locations. Research the nearest RadioShack locations and see if they have the item in stock. Be an educated consumer, but don't let it ruin the shopping experience.

Guitar Center Brooklyn

What they said about Guitar Center Brooklyn

Jon J : Brooklyn, NY
Pretty much what you expect from Guitar Center. I've had some salespeople who really know their stuff and go out of thier way to help you, and I've waited for 10 minutes just to get somebody's attention. They did a good job setting up my guitar the one time I took it there for that. One of those places it's better to go to if you know what you want, IMO

Gaelen h : Brooklyn, NY
Guitar Center is located on the lowest level of the Atlantic Terminal Mall. It can be kind of confusing to get to. Once you're in the mall just look for the escalators going down.

If you need help buying something from a specific department, go to someone from that department. It will make your life easier.

It used to be un-bareably loud in GC, but now that jamming is practically non-existent, you can leave the store without a headache.

Tom Z : New York, NY
Now this will be the Guitar Center that I go to as opposed to that abomination in Manhattan. The clerks here are helpful and are not trying to force some product on you. The clerk asked me "oh what programs are you using?" I thought "oh no here we go" I said "Reason 4". The clerk says wow how is it? How do you like it? I have been meaning to pick it up. WHEW! Finally a NORMAL sales clerk. GC of Brooklyn gets high marks from me, not a full 5 because I was standing in the keyboard controller section for awhile. But nonetheless the clerks were helpful and not pushy.

Guitar Center Illinois

What they said about Guitar Center Illinois :

Brian G : Aurora, IL

I love this store.

I don't care if the sales people are commissioned, at least they're not slimey used car sales people. The employees at this store know when to leave you alone and when to hover. They do a good job at finding the right mix of products for you to preview.

I have spent hours (and lots of dollars) in this store playing high end bass guitars. Not only can you preview guitars that you normally would never be able to play or buy unless you win the lottery, but the store is a a great meeting space for aspiring musicians. It's cool all around.

Granted, every now and then you get the Bon Jovi fan in there... rot in &%$#  Bon Jovi fan!!!

The store is a little cramped, but well stocked. The prices are right where they should be. Only a FEW bad experiences with commission sales people - what do you expect from them... each sale is food on their table. They are two types of commissions sales people - jerks that don't take no for an answer and the ones that build relationship over time, know when to leave you alone and when to check in with you.

This store is pretty cool all around. I typically don't like chains, but when you go to a family guitar shop you instantly get the evil eye from the owner if you even touch a product... Here, they don't care. That makes things a lot more comfortable for me.

Will W : Normal, IL
I found the guys at Guitar center very willing to help and trying to accomadate any concerns I had. Even let me use the customer serivce computer to check out the reviews and stats on some items. Granted, I didn't have a kid....everyone knows expensive musical equipment hates kids. Many a Stratocaster has been know to magically move under it's own power and trip small children when it's owner isn't around.

On the downside, I found their DJ equipment selection to be alright, although not very expansive....if one is buying that gear, then going online or Audiolines in Chicago is a much better deal. However, the guitar center guys can bend their prices for you if your persuasive.
